Why Speciality Decaf Coffee Has Never Tasted Better

Let's be honest, decaf hasn't always had the easiest ride.

For years it was the coffee people reached for because they had to, not because they were excited about what was in the cup. If you fancied something with all the flavour but a little less caffeine, the options were often... well, a bit disappointing.

Thankfully, coffee has moved on.

We've noticed it ourselves at Baytown. More and more people are choosing decaf, whether that's because they're cutting back on caffeine, fancy a coffee after dinner or simply want another brew without wondering if they'll still be staring at the ceiling at midnight. Whatever the reason, one thing's become clear, people still want a really good coffee.

So do we.

Why We Chose the Swiss Water Process

When we started looking for a decaf coffee, we weren't searching for something that would simply fill a gap in the range. We wanted a coffee we'd happily brew for ourselves.

Ness Point is a single-origin coffee from the Cajamarca, San Ignacio and Jaén regions of Peru, naturally decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process. The caffeine is gently removed using only water, time and temperature, helping to keep all the good stuff that makes the coffee worth drinking in the first place.

It's a slower process, but good things usually are.

Meet Ness Point

Every Baytown coffee has a story, and every name starts with somewhere close to home.

Ness Point is tucked away in Robin Hood's Bay, one of those places that's easy to miss if you're rushing but well worth finding if you're not. It felt like the right name for a coffee that's all about slowing the pace a little, sticking the kettle on and enjoying another cup because you can.

In the cup, you'll find notes of date, chocolate and sweet biscuit with a smooth, rounded finish that works beautifully however you like to brew. Cafetière, V60, filter or espresso, Ness Point is just as happy in any of them.

What Our Customers Think

We could tell you how good Ness Point is, but we think our customers say it better.

Andrew wrote:

"You know how often saving on the caffeine means saving on the flavour? Not so with Ness Point. We love it. It means we can have a coffee in the evening without losing sleep."

Barrie described it as:

"One of the best decaf we have tried."

And Linda's review made us smile:

"Can't tell it's decaf... Love it."

Reading through the reviews, the same thing comes up again and again. People don't feel like they're missing out. They're simply enjoying good coffee.

Exactly as it should be.

Who Is Decaf Coffee For?

The short answer? Anyone who enjoys great coffee.

Maybe you're trying to cut back on caffeine. Maybe you like a coffee after dinner. Maybe you just fancy another mug while you're reading a book, watching the cricket or waiting for everyone else to decide what they're doing.

Whatever brings you to decaf, it shouldn't mean lowering your expectations.

Brewing Ness Point

Ness Point is a medium roast that's wonderfully easy to brew.

We particularly enjoy it as:

  • Cafetière
  • V60 or pour over
  • Filter coffee
  • Espresso

However you make it, you'll get the same smooth, comforting cup with notes of date, chocolate and sweet biscuit.

Looking for the Best Decaf Coffee?

If you've written off decaf in the past, you're certainly not the only one.

But speciality decaf coffee has come a long way, and Ness Point is proof that less caffeine doesn't have to mean less flavour.

Naturally decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process, sourced from Peru and roasted here in Whitby, it's a coffee we're proud to have on the Baytown shelves.

Pop the kettle on, brew a cup and see what all the fuss is about.
