Whether you’re a local or visiting, there’s a lot to see in Whitby. Come along with us.....
A Walk Through Whitby (With Coffee Along the Way)
You arrive into Whitby by bus, train or car, and it’s hard not to notice St Mary's Church and Whitby Abbey standing proudly on the cliff top.
Just beyond the abbey is where we roast, so you’re never far from the source.

Take a walk towards the Swing Bridge and turn left up Golden Lion Bank. It’s short and sharp, but worth it.
At the top, you’ll find Java Café on Flowergate. Great food served all day, and a proper Baytown Coffee to go with it. Directly across, slightly tucked away, is Whitby Wholefoods, where you can pick up our coffee to take home.
Carry on up Flowergate and you’ll come across Whitby Hampers on your right. Baytown on the shelves, alongside plenty of other local produce, and an easy place to pick up something to take a bit of Whitby home with you.
As you reach the top of Flowergate, turn right onto Skinner Street, one of the main streets through Whitby.
On the right, Beckett’s serves a consistently good cup of Baytown Coffee. Nearby, The Dispensary is the place to grab a bag, and just past the Granby, Stokers is always worth stepping into for another.
From here, turn onto Hudson Street and then left onto East Terrace, where the view opens up across the sea.
Along this stretch you’ll find La Rosa Guest House, Number 7 Guest House, The Fat Badger, and The Royal Hotel, all serving Baytown as their coffee of choice. It’s a good place to slow down for a moment before carrying on.

Head towards the whale bones, then down the steps on Khyber Pass towards Pier Road, passing the arcades and amusements along the way.
If you’ve got time, the RNLI Museum and Whitby Lobster Hatchery are both worth a stop. And if fish and chips are on the cards, Quayside Fish & Chips serves a cracking Baytown Coffee alongside it.
Cross back over the Swing Bridge and turn right along Grape Lane.
On the left, you’ll find Moutreys, a long-standing favourite serving Baytown Coffee. At the end of the lane, across the road, is Little Fox Bookshop, a brilliant independent spot where you can pick up a bag of Baytown or grab a takeaway for the walk ahead.
From there, turn right onto Church Street and take your time. It’s one of Whitby’s most recognisable stretches.
You’ll pass independent shops and places like W Hamond, the original Whitby jet shop. Just before the Market Place, you’ll come across White Horse & Griffin, a restored 17th-century coaching inn said to have hosted guests such as Charles Dickens, and another place we’re proud to see Baytown Coffee being served.
Continue on towards the 199 steps.
At the bottom of the steps, slightly set back, is the wonderful Abbey Steps Tea Room, serving a great cup before you make the climb.
From there, it’s up to Whitby Abbey and St Mary's Church, with views across Whitby, the harbour, and out towards Sandsend.

Made it to the top? You’ve earned something.
Pop over to Whitby Brewery for a pint, pizza, and usually a bit of live music. Tell them we sent you.
If you’re heading a little further out of town, you’ll still find us.
Jacksons of Ruswarp is just outside Whitby and well worth the stop, while Whitby Holiday Park and York House Campsite keep things going for those staying nearby.
Out towards Sandsend, both Saltmoore and Fish Cottage serve Baytown Coffee, whether you’ve come off the beach or are settling in for something to eat.
