Something dark is brewing at Baytown... 🦇
With Halloween creeping just around the corner, we’ve been busy down at the roastery bringing something new to life. Introducing… Dracula’s Bite. Our brand-new, dark-roasted limited-edition coffee.Â
Rich, bold and packed with unmistakable character. Whether you swear by dark roasts or they’re not usually your thing, Dracula’s Bite might just be what you’ve been missing.
But what does Dracula have to do with coffee? Well, with our coffee roastery just a bat’s wing away from Whitby Abbey, we couldn’t resist having a little fun with one of our own local legends.

Dracula x BaytownÂ
If you’ve ever been to Whitby, you’ll know what we’re all about here. Dracula, Goths, Steampunk, THE LOT. We embrace our spooky side year-round, to be fair. From the towering ruins of Whitby Abbey to the iconic 199 Steps, Whitby is synonymous with Bram Stoker’s Dracula.Â
In Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula arrives in Whitby aboard the Demeter, which runs aground at Tate Hill Sands. Disguised as a large black dog, he escapes into the town. It’s a story that’s been part of Whitby’s identity for well over a century, and it’s a story we’re incredibly lucky to have right on our doorstep.
Here at Baytown, our location has always been a huge part of who we are. From Saltwick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay to the lovely local businesses we work with, our community and coastline are a constant source of inspiration.Â

You’ll even find plenty of references to our fave local spots throughout our coffee range. If you spot any, let us know!
So, with Halloween on the horizon, we felt it was only right to give Whitby’s most infamous visitor a coffee of his own. Even Dracula needs a proper brew from time to time.Â
Meet the Coffee Behind the BiteÂ
Dracula’s Bite is an Indian Robusta Coffee, known as Kaapi Royale, grown at Raxidi Estate in the Manjarabad region of Karnataka, Southern India.
Raxidi Estate has a coffee-growing history stretching back more than 150 years, and some of its trees are still producing coffee after a whole century! The estate covers around 81 hectares, with much of the land home to the historic Old Peridinia Robusta variety.

Robusta isn’t something you’ll usually find in our coffee range, but we do love throwing something a little different into the mix! Raxidi Estate takes pride in producing high-quality Robusta. Only ripe coffee cherries are carefully selected before being washed and processed to bring out the coffee’s distinctive character. It’s a cracking example of why Robusta deserves a little more love at Baytown.Â
And of course, we’ve given it the Baytown treatment! Dark coffee roasted right here on the Yorkshire coast, with tasting notes of molasses, toffee and biscuit. Rich, bold, and comforting. Perfect for these chilly autumn mornings when getting out of bed feels like a horror story. 👻
Our cracking team of mischievous marketers have been out and about in Whitby, dressed up as Dracula and getting up to all sorts!
Dracula’s Bite washes ashore this Friday… dare you try it? 👀☕
